Greg McGiffney grew up and attended High School in New Jersey. Receiving an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland he graduated from there with honors and served as a Surface Warfare Officer based out of San Diego, California. While there, he also qualified as a steam propulsion engineer.

After leaving active duty he has worked in heavy industry, with vast experience in many major enterprises – including specialty chemicals, power production, electrical distribution, automation, controls, and material handling. Currently, he is employed by Solenis LLC, a global industrial chemical provider; where he is their Area Manager for the Western U.S. and he leads his team in providing chemicals and equipment used in industrial water treatment for major commercial facilities and critical infrastructure.

A leader in this field, he has studied Environmental Engineering at UC Irvine, authored technical papers, was awarded a U.S. (and Canadian) Patent for an application in mineral scale inhibition, and also earned his MBA and MPA along the way. Enjoying the challenge of instruction in the college environment along with his business pursuits, he is an Adjunct Professor having taught at many institutions of higher learning in the San Joaquin Valley. In addition, he is a Planning Commissioner for the County of Kern and a Track & Field Coach at Bakersfield Christian High School. Having retired from the Navy Reserve as a Captain, he most recently commanded a Military Sealift Command Unit in Pearl Harbor, Hawai’i and has been Kern County’s U.S. Naval Academy Admissions Liaison “Blue and Gold” Officer for over twenty years.

In addition to that, he has attended a variety of service schools, including being a graduate of the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, and Joint Forces Staff College, in Norfolk, Virginia. He was also a certified instructor for the Navy’s Senior Officer Leadership Course. Greg and his family currently reside in Bakersfield, Calif
