Caroline Cole is committed to helping others present their ideas and themselves in the best possible manner.

Maintaining that business is about mutually rewarding relationships and that such relationships are built and sustained with genuine interactions, Caroline writes about and teaches professional communication. She also provides consulting services in industry and academic contexts.

A native of Chicago, Caroline earned a B.A. in English and Rhetoric, an M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction, and a Ph.D. in Writing Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; she has won and been nominated for numerous teaching-related awards. In 1997, she joined the faculty of College Writing Programs at the University of California, Berkeley. Two years later, she created, launched, and currently teaches the first undergraduate professional writing course open to students across campus. That same year, she became a visiting faculty member at the Walter A. Haas School of Business, teaching oral and written communication courses.

In 2003, she founded Ethos Professional Communication to offer seminars, workshops, and consulting services to individuals and organizations that were interested in achieving their goals through communication practices that value and reward all participants.

Although she increasingly works with industry professionals, Caroline’s on-going work at the university allows her to research the latest communication theories and practices. Having received annual invitations to speak at and engage in the foremost conference of her profession, she has worked to explore and refine the most effective strategies for teaching written and oral communication. By engaging in both university and workplace forums, she can better bridge the gap between academic training and industry expectations.

She presently lives in the East Bay.
